Periodontal treatment focuses on the health of your gums and the surrounding structures that support your teeth. Gum disease is a common yet serious condition, and it ranges from mild inflammation (gingivitis) to more severe forms like periodontitis, which can lead to tooth loss if left untreated.

Gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease, caused by plaque buildup along the gumline. It leads to symptoms like redness, swelling, and bleeding gums. If caught early, gingivitis can be treated with professional cleanings and improved oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits.

Periodontitis, a more advanced stage, occurs when the infection spreads deeper into the gums and supporting bone. Treatment for periodontitis often involves scaling and root planing (deep cleaning below the gumline) to remove plaque and tartar. In severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to reduce pockets between the teeth and gums or to regenerate lost bone.
