Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is a crucial dental procedure designed to save infected or severely damaged teeth, preventing the need for extraction. The treatment targets the innermost part of the tooth, known as the pulp, which can become infected due to deep decay, cracks, or trauma.

During the procedure, a dentist carefully removes the infected or damaged pulp from the tooth’s root canals, where nerves and blood vessels reside. This infected tissue often causes pain, swelling, and, if untreated, can lead to abscess formation or tooth loss. Once the pulp is removed, the dentist thoroughly cleans, disinfects, and shapes the root canals to eliminate any remaining bacteria or debris.

The canals are then filled with a biocompatible material and sealed to prevent further infection. Afterward, a dental crown or filling is typically placed to restore the tooth’s structure and function, allowing the tooth to function normally without the risk of reinfection.
